Andy Ferrara (Class of 2005) and the Ferrara family have a
nice story in Sports Illustrated (5/31/10)!! Link to article (no (no

At Penn Relays, Andy anchored the 4x800m team to victory with
a 1:48.57 split!!

2008 Cross Country Wrap Up

Girls Varsity won it's 3rd straight league title. They were
led by Co-M.V.P. Kelly Keenan (2nd place in league) and Natalie Bullock (3rd place).
Other all league runners were Melissa Wenzel (4th place), Freshmen Kristen Ishii
(7th place), and Freshmen Caylin Ofsanko (8th place.)

Boys Varsity had their strongest team since the late 60's.
The boys won the Mt. SAC Invite, League Champions, 4th @ CIF Finals, and
finished 5th in State. They had five All-League runners: Andrew
Salinas (2nd place), Tyler Almeida (3rd place), Steven Park (5th place), Shane
Ganalon (9th place), and Jacob Catena (10th place). They set a team record
on the Mt SAC Course with individual times of 15:35, 15:44, 16:09, 16:11, 16:18.

2009 Track & Field Wrap Up

Coaching News: Coach Chavez retired from track...plus she
was pregnant, Coach Waybright did not return, and Coach Tokuda stepped down as
Head Coach. The Head Coaching job went to Coach Jeff Zaeske.

The track was being destroyed for a new facelift, so the kids
had no access to the track, jump pits, vault mats, etc. The team had to
travel to West High for daily practice.

Boys Varsity was led by sprinters John White (10.8 in 100m and
21'11.5" in the long) and Austin Henry (50.6 in the 400m). But the real
strength was the distance time: Tyler Almeida 1:56 in 800m, 4:15 in 1600m,
9:33 in 3200m...Andrew Salinas 4:23 in the 1600m, 9:22 in the 3200m...Jimmy
Duffin 4:27 in the 1600m, 9:56 in 3200m...Shane Ganalon 2:01 in the 800m, 4:34
in the 1600m...Ronny Hafeza 2:02 in the 800m, 4:35 in the 1600m.

Girls Varsity was lead by Tamekia Mayo (12.6 in 100m, 26.1 in
the 200m), Liz Schofield (16'8" in Long and 5'0" in High), and Kara Kalmar
(10'6" in the vault)

upon a time, we all graduated from South High...here are some of those pictures:
Graduation Pictures
Hey Alumni...I know none of
you are ever going to run Track again. Well
we need your old track spikes.
The new kids use the old spike shoes all the time, but we're limited on shoe
sizes. Bring them by 6th period and say hi...if you don't remember, 6th
period in high school starts at 2:10 each day. Put your name on them, Graduation
year, and best marks.

Don't
throw your spikes away...we need them!!
