I am sadden to report that former Spartan Alumni Matt Ferrara
has been killed in Afghanistan. Matt was a great athlete, student, friend,
brother, and soldier...he will be missed. To the Ferrara family (Mario, Linda,
Marcus, Simone, Damon, and Andy), my deepest condolences for your loss.
I will forever be thankful that I got to know and coach Matt during this
high school years. Coach T

I want to thank everyone for the tremendous outpouring of support. For those who
live close and want to attend, Matt's funeral will be at Rolling Hills Covenant
Church,
Rolling Hills Estates, CA at 1130 on Monday, 19 NOV. Some people have
indicated that they want to send flowers, etc. However, my parents are starting
a scholarship fund and would prefer small donations sent to:
South High School, 4801 Pacific Coast Highway,
Torrance, CA 90505 Attn: Activity Office. Please indicate the "Matt
Ferrara Scholarship Fund" on the check. I also wanted to share a better
collection of pictures of what type of guy Matt was. Matt and I became really
close in the last couple of years and he was going to visit me in
Bangkok in February for his R&R. Finally, I am proud to say that he was
nominated for the Silver Star for his actions defending his platoon outpost from
